Police Probe Drowning Death of North Huron Toddler

Huron OPP officers continue to investigate the drowning death of a toddler on a North Huron farm last night.

Emergency personnel were called to the farm just before 9:00, after family members found the 18-month old girl unresponsive in a water trough inside a barn.

The child was rushed to hospital by paramedics however attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. The child was pronounced at the hospital. Her name is not being released until next-of-kin have been contacted.

Police say it appears that a group of siblings were playing outside when the little girl wandered away from the group and into a nearby barn were livestock were kept.

A forensic post-mortem examination is being conducted at a London hospital.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
