Grey County Celebrates Local Food Week

It's the time of year when locally grown fruits and vegetables are showing up in grocery stores and markets.

This is Local Food Week in the province sponsored by Foodland Ontario.

Grey County's Economic Development Officer, Philly Markowitz says the county's bounty of locally grown food is something to celebrate.

Markowitz says one of the best places to find local food is at community farmers' markets. She adds people can promote local food in large chain grocery stores, often just by talking to the manager.

"If the consumer demands it and the consumer makes the choice to buy the foods that are produced in Ontario then that's going to prove to the manager that local foods are in demand."
