Rescuers Respond to Capsized Canoe in Georgian Bay

Grey County OPP say lifejackets likely saved the lives of three people after their canoe capsized on Georgian Bay.

Police say they responded to a report of three people in distress about 100 metres from shore on Grey Road 1 in Georgian Bluffs

The three Brampton residents were able to swim back to shore, where local residents and emergency services assisted them, and treated them for shock and mild hypothermia.

Grey County OPP wish to use this incident as a reminder that wearing a lifejacket or PFD significantly increases survivability should a mishap occur.

Not wearing this equipment continues to be a contributing factor in the majority of boating fatalities on OPP-patrolled waterways.
