Central Huron Considers Ending Ward System

There's talk among Central Huron councillors about doing away with the ward system for the next election.

Central Huron has two wards -- the East Ward of Clinton and the former Hullett Township, and the West Ward which is the former Goderich Township.

Mayor Jim Ginn says they discovered just before the last election that a candidate did not have to live in a ward to run for council in that ward. Some councillors felt that eliminated the need to have a ward system.

Mayor Ginn says if they decide to elect all of their councillors at large, the decision has to be made one year before the date of the next election.
