8th Street Construction Stop Work Orders Lifted In Owen Sound

The Ministry of Labour has lifted two stop work orders issued for the 8th Street East Reconstruction site in Owen Sound.

The orders were issued on May 19th when a slope failure damaged a home on the 8th Street East hill.

The orders required the contractor to ensure safe access for homeowners on the south side of the road.

The other order required rehabilitation and stabilization of the slide area and nearby grounds.

A Ministry of Labour inspector reviewed temporary repairs to the slope by the contractor, under direction of a professional engineer.

The remedial repairs and the plan of action presented by the geotechnical engineer satisfied the inspector.

Construction is expected to resume within 3 to 4 weeks once the rehabilitation design is completed .

Geotechnical investigation and design for the long-term slope repair is presently underway.

8the Street East is closed to through traffic between 4th Avenue East and 8th Avenue East until mid October.

Local and emergency traffic still has access.
