Bluewater Councillors Learn More About Voters Lists

Bluewater councillors know more today about the methods used to compile the voter's list for municipal elections.

An Account Manager with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation was council's guest speaker last night.

Jennifer McConkey explained that they deal mostly with home owners, so renters present a challenge. Because MPAC prepares a preliminary list for municipalities in July or August for an October election, there is a time gap, and that particular time period is when many people move.

McConkey says MPAC's numbers are over 92 per cent accurate with home owners, and about 80 per cent accurate for renters.

She also stressed that residents have to accept some responsibility for making sure they're on the voter's list, and for the last election in 2014 they launched the web site www.voterlookup.ca to help voters do that.
