MVCA Issues Flood Watch

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Watch specifically for the lowest areas of Shelter Valley Campground in Central Huron and the campground at Wawanosh Park Conservation Area in the North Huron.

The Maitland watershed received an average of 30 mm of rain overnight Monday on saturated soils, and levels in the Lower Maitland River are rising.

Those levels are expected to peak on Wednesday.

A Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety, issued yesterday, remains in place for the rest of the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds

MVCA officials are reiterating that recreational uses of local rivers should be postponed until flows return to seasonal levels.

Some additional rain is in the forecast for Thursday and MVCA staff will continue to monitor precipitation and river flows closely over the next several days.
