Trustee Supports K-12 Meaford School

The Bluewater District School Board trustee for Meaford says the suggestion to amalgamate the two local elementary schools with the local high school could work.

Linda Hamill sees merit in a suggestion put forward by a delegate for Meaford parents at a public meeting in Chesley Monday night.

Shannonlee Wilkie pointed out that attendance at Meaford Community School, Georgian Bay Secondary School and St. Vincent-Euphrasia School has dropped sharply over the past five years.

She says the three schools should amalgamate and vacant classrooms at the high school used to house the younger students.

Hamill says there are already several schools working well under the k-12 plan in in the Bluewater school district

Wilkie told those at the public meeting that if the board decides to close the high school in Meaford, its students would have to be bused to Collingwood and Owen Sound, which could result in more dropouts.
