Wingham Recreation Fundraiser Underway

A North Huron group is continuing its ambitious project for the Maitland River Elementary and F.E. Madill secondary schools in Wingham.

The Building Bridges to Our Community Campaign is raising money through grants and the community to upgrade the outdoor facilities at the adjacent schools.

Co-Chair Karri-Anne Cameron says the $750,000 project will be carried out in three phases.

"Our goal for 2016 is another $120,000 to finish the playground (at Maitland River)," she says. "From there we want to upgrade the running track and soccer field at F.E Madill with lights installed, and also an environmental learning ground."

There was an information session last night to update the community on the project. Co-Chair Teresa Farrell-Becker says their goal is to cover 60 per cent of the project through grants, and the rest from the community.

Some money has already been raised with the first pieces of playground equipment being installed this summer.
