Perth County Severance Meeting Set For Tuesday

Farm severances will be the topic of a public meeting held by Perth County in Sebringville on Tuesday.

It’s part of a five-year review of the County’s official plan, which prohibits the severance of lots for residential use on lands within the agriculture designation.

“The Perth Federation of Agriculture, according to their latest correspondents, have said that even within their organization, there’s still a split between farmers that are cash crop oriented, who are more in support of a surplus farm dwelling severances, and those on the livestock base,” Perth County Director of Planning & Development Allan Rothwell tells CKNX News. “The livestock farmers are concerned surplus farm dwelling severances could have an impact on their ability to expand or enlarge their livestock operation because of the minimum distance separation calculations.”

Perth South and West Perth are appealing the ban to the Ontario Municipal Board.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday at 7:30pm at the Sebringville Community Centre.
