Avon Maitland School Board Approves Budget Estimate

Trustees with the Avon Maitland District School Board approved the estimated budget for the 2015 – 2016 school year at last night's board meeting.

The budget includes projected net revenues of just under 210-million dollars, compared with projected operating expenses of just over 196-million dollars – a 1.3 per cent reduction in estimated spending last year.

Business Superintendent Janet Baird-Jackson explains the estimated budget also includes about 900-thousand dollars taken from reserves. That reflects the thinking of the board that they want to spend money on students in the school in the current year.

The conclusion was they want to have enough in reserve to protect programs but not at the expense of student learning.

Baird-Jackson points out the board has achieved that, and is continuing to enhance programming in some areas.
