Grey Bruce Health Unit Promotes Dental Care Programs

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is working with the province to ensure local residents - especially children - have adequate dental care.

The Health Unit's Denna Leach says 45 per cent of people in Grey Bruce have no public or private dental insurance. She says that makes it difficult for lower income families to make sure they have good oral health.

"Even just for preventive work the cost can be really prohibitive and you add more than one or two children and it becomes exponentially more challenging to address preventive work," says Leach.

There are six different government programs where people can get help paying for dental care. Leach says the Health Unit would like to see that streamlined.

People can get in touch with the Grey Bruce Health Unit for help in negotiating the system.
