Trafalgar Bridge in Perth County To Be Demolished

The historic Trafalgar Bridge is set to be demolished this fall.

A consulting firm has told both West Perth and Perth South that they will seek to remove the 110-year-old bridge by the end of the month, barring any major public outcry.

The environmental assessment from R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited was presented to West Perth council on Monday.

Perth West voted to remove Trafalgar back in 2013 when a study showed only 53 people used the steel-truss bridge daily.

"They [comsulting firm] has done a thorough job of looking at all the options and investigating all possible funding for the project to restore it historically," West Perth Mayor Walter McKenzie told CKNX News after Monday night's meeting, "They basically ran up to a brick wall."

Officials say the cost of the demolition should be around $180,000.

The cost will be split by both West Perth and Perth South because the bridge lies on the municipal boundary.
