Grey County To Expand Headquarters Building

Grey County council has voted to proceed with a major expansion of its headquarters in Owen Sound.

The decision is to double the size of the current structure by adding on to the front or west side of the building.

Earlier, council had thought expanding to the rear of building was best, but that was before an architectural report.

"The architect has said to us there's immense problems with putting it at the back so it's cheaper, we're gonna save the taxpayers quite a bit of money by putting it at the front," says Councillor Arlene Wright.

The current estimated cost is $13.2-million.

The next step is for more detailed construction drawings that could be put out to tender.

It's expected work could start on an expanded Grey County headquarters next spring.
