Huron County Increases Plumbing And Sewage Inspection Fees

Huron County council has passed a bylaw that will see an increase in the fees for plumbing and sewage related inspections.

CAO Brenda Orchard says the fees have not been increased since 2006 and it's essential that revenue from those services cover the cost of delivering the service.

Orchard says part of the problem is some municipalities are now performing their own sewage and plumbing inspections, which means a loss of revenue for the county.

But she says normal increases for wages and general costs of living have also contributed to the problem.

Under the new schedule plumbing permits will now cost about $200, up from around $175.

Sewer inspections will go from $112 to about $128.
