Elementary School Teachers Start Sanctions

The director of the Avon Maitland District School Board says elementary school teachers with the board are in sanctions at this time.

Ted Doherty explains the elementary teachers don't have a contract and so they have the legal right to impose sanctions and the board received a letter advising that would be the case.

Doherty says the sanction affect things like field trips and other extra-curricular activities. Some of those field trips could have been planned last spring and they would not be planning any new ones at this point for the current school year.

Doherty remains hopeful an agreement can be reached soon and they can get back to a normal school year.
