Chatsworth Church Leader Trial Date Set For 24 Charges

A man known as the "Prophet" at the Church of Jesus Christ Restored in Chatsworth goes to trial May 9, 2016, to face 24 charges.

The charges against 56-year-old Fred King date between 1978 and 2008 at a time when King was the leader of the church.

They include sexual exploitation, sexual interference, sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering death threats, and assault with a weapon.

King disappeared after former members of the church brought abuse allegations to police.

A former church member who lives in Owen Sound wrote a book about being a wife of the "Prophet," and about her escape.

King was arrested in Hamilton on April 11, 2012, and charged in 2014 after a 16 month investigation.

The trial is expected to last three weeks.

King’s brother, Judson, will also stand trial.

There is a publication ban in place.
