United Way Launches Special Campaign For North Perth

Community groups in the Listowel area are hoping to bring a new youth mental health program to North Perth.

The United Way of Perth Huron kicked off their annual fund raising drive at a ceremony in Listowel on Thursday, with an added announcement for North Perth.

Executive Director Ryan Erb says along with regular programs, the United Way is working with community partners to create a a new youth mental health program in Listowel to support the area.

"It's designed to help youth and young adults to get the help they need when facing addiction and mental health problems," says Erb, adding the program hopes to model an initiative in Stratford that has been working well. "We had success from a program called Crossing Bridges in Stratford and the group that organizes that (Choices for Change) want to replicate it in Listowel."

Organizers announced a fund raising goal of $135,000 that will go towards programs in North Perth. The total fundraising goal for all of Perth and Huron Counties will be announced tomorrow at an event in Stratford.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
