North Perth Youth Charged With Arson

A weekend shed fire in Listowel has led to a charge of arson against a 14-year-old.

Shortly after 4pm on Sunday, Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to an address along Tremaine Ave. S in Listowel, where the North Perth Fire Department was fighting a suspicious shed fire.

The 10x20 wooden shed with metal exterior was fully engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived.

Investigation by the Perth County OPP determined that a citizen had observed a young male depart the location of the shed just prior to the fire call and was able to provide police with an accurate description of the youth.

Officers were able to determine his identity and further investigation also resulted in the laying of numerous criminal charges.

The 14-year-old North Perth male has been charged with arson, break and enter with intent to commit indictable offence, break and enter to a dwelling and mischief under $5,000.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
