Flu Shot Ruling Won't Affect HPHA Hospitals

An arbitration ruling regarding forced flu shots for hospital employees will not affect the hospitals in Clinton, Seaforth, Stratford or St. Marys.

The ruling was announced this week and determined hospital administration does not have the right to force employees to get flu shots or force them to wear masks in the event of an outbreak, if they haven't had their shot.

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance CEO Andrew Williams says the healthcare alliance's policy does not force employees to get flu shots or wear masks.

Williams adds they do encourage staff to get their flu shots and compliance has been very high so there's never been any need to develop a policy that goes beyond that. Williams also points out it's very important for patient safety that that continues and they're continuing to encourage flu shots as the flu season approaches.
