Public Health Agency of Canada officials are investigating a number of salmonella outbreaks across the country, 16 of those right here in Ontario.
A total of eight provinces are affected including British Columbia (3), Alberta (6), Saskatchewan (2), Manitoba (2), Ontario (16), Quebec (3) Nova Scotia (1), and New Brunswick (1).
No cases related to the current investigation have been reported in Huron County, Perth County or Grey-Bruce County.
Bob Hart, public health manager for the Grey-Bruce Health Unit, says while no cases have been reported locally, they do tend to see a number of them every year.
"We do get cases of salmonella in in a general way fairly commonly in the area, approximately 40 cases a year do occur, but none of the particular strain of salmonella that they're looking for in this particular cluster has popped up in this locale," Hart tells CKNX News.
Hart says on average they see roughly 44 cases of salmonella poisoning every year.
Those most at risk are infants, children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
