A farm worker escaped with only minor injuries following a daring high level rescue in South Bruce Tuesday afternoon.
The unidentified worker had been working on top of a grain elevator leg when something malfunctioned with one of the gear boxes, striking the man in the leg and the face.
South Bruce Fire Chief Chuck Lobsinger told CKNX News the rescue was challenging because the man was trapped roughly 130 feet up in the air. Firefighters were called in from Kincardine and Tiverton who are specially trained in high angle rescue situations.
"Our Fire Department (Teeswater Fire Rescue) activated a mutual aid to bring in Kincardine, Tiverton and Mildmay for mutual aid, basically because Kincardine and Tiverton are trained in high level rescue," Chief Lobsinger told CKNX Tuesday night.
In total, roughly 25 firefighters took part in the rescue.
"About a 135 foot up in the air, if you know what a grain elevator looks like, the augers, you just got a ladder going up and you've got cables all over the place holding up the elevator leg so, very challenging. Kudos to Kincardine and Tiverton," said Lobsinger.
The worker was eventually roped off and lowered to the ground to a waiting ambulance.
He was transported to Walkerton Hospital with only minor injuries.
