New Dementia Program Opens In Goderich

The Goderich Place Retirement Residence launched its new Harmony Memory Care program Thursday.

It's designed to help Alzheimers and dementia patients in a Montessori-based system.  It takes a look at each resident's past life, and creates an individual program to meet that person's needs.

General Manager Gail MacTavish explains the Harmony Memory Care program includes things like yoga, meditation, music and art.

The have the capacity for 12 residents in the program, and although it's still a very new program they already have five residents.

MacTavish points out the Harmony Memory Care program is the only one of its kind in Huron County and is something people previously had to move to larger urban centres to access.
