Fires Damage Homes In Wiarton And Owen Sound

Two people were taken to hospital after a house fire in Wiarton Wednesday evening.

The residence on Dawson St. was engulfed in flames when South Bruce Peninsula firefighters arrived around 7pm. The fire was contained to the main house, with minimal heat damage to the adjacent houses.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The total cost of damage has not been determined and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire marshal is assisting in an investigation to try to find out what caused the fire.

In Owen Sound, what started as a shed fire in a residential neighbourhood quickly became a more serious incident.

The fire was reported just before 11pm Wednesday night in the 1000-block of 2nd Ave. W.

As firefighters arrived on scene, the fire had spread to the back of the single family home. The two occupants of the house made it out safely.

Owen Sound Police Service officers evacuated nearby homes on 1st Ave. A W and 2nd Ave. W.   The only injury was to an onlooker who tripped and fell.

All the neighbours were allowed to return to their homes once the fire was under control, with the exception of the two occupants of the house that was damaged.
