Midwestern Ontario Jobless Rate Edges Down

The local jobless rate edged down a half a per cent to 6.1%.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says locally, job increases were up .9% in other services and .5% in accommodation and food services.

In the region stretching from Stratford up the Bruce Peninsula, there were 2,400 job losses in wholesale and retail trade, and 1,600 fewer positions in health care and social assistance.

Education service positions held steady, despite a spike of 17 per cent in employment in that sector provincially.

Last year at this time, the region had a 3.5 per cent unemployment rate.
