Howick Council Gets Update On Wingham Hospital Changes

Wingham and District Hospital officials updated Howick Township councillors Tuesday night on plans to redevelop 15,000 sq ft of space at the hospital.

The project includes moving the pharmacy and oncology department next to each other, increasing the sterilization department, and moving post-op recovery closer to the OR.

Hospital CEO Karl Ellis says renovating their Ambulatory Care Clinic, which includes the chemotherapy area, is a major focus due to large number of day procedures.

The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care will cover 90 per-cent of the construction cost, while the cost of new equipment like x-rays and ultrasound will rely on a community campaign.

Construction is expected to be completed within two and a half years.
