Barn Fire Causes Almost $1M Damage Near Lucknow

The damage estimate from a barn fire south of Lucknow last night has been pegged at close to $1-million.

Lucknow Fire Chief Peter Steer says they got the call around 6pm last evening to a farm along the Lucknow Line near the Belgrave Rd.  One barn full of straw and hay was already engulfed in flames when they arrived.

He called for assistance from Goderich and Ripley fire stations, and those tankers spent the night hauling over 60 loads of water from Lucknow.

A second barn containing straw also caught fire and was destroyed.  A third newer barn was saved.

The cause of the initial fire remains unknown.
