Peace Medallion Awarded To Owen Sound Woman

Owen Sound's Colleen Purdon has been awarded the Owen Sound YMCA Peace Medallion for 2015.

The award is handed out to individuals who have made their community a better, more peaceful place.

Purdon is former city councillor and a grass roots organizer. Her long list of contributions to Owen Sound include working to prevent violence against women and promoting a more inclusive community.  Purdon accepted the award on behalf of all those who work toward peace.

"There's a whole community behind me that has worked with me for peace in our community so I think it's a wonderful honour but also important to thank all of them as well," says Purdon in an interview following the peace medallion presentation ceremony at the Y in Owen Sound.

Purdon promotes Owen Sound as an area to accept refugees from all over the world.
