Busy Main Street in Palmerston Has Drawbacks

Palmerston residents are starting to complain about the traffic volume on the main street.

Minto councillor Ron Elliott says pedestrians, and even vehicle drivers sometimes have a long wait to cross the main street, which is Highway 23.

Minto council heard that daily traffic flow has increased from just under 5,000 vehicles in 2007 to over 5,300 in 2015.

Elliott suggests a traffic light or cross walk is what's needed.

Mayor George Bridge says its good news that Palmerston is getting busier because of new development and more people.

But he plans to take the main street traffic concerns to Wellington County council to see if the issue can be addressed.
