Mitchell Hosts 'Operation Heat' Launch On Thursday

Mitchell has been selected as the community where the OPP will launch a province-wide "positive ticketing" program.

The Mac's convenience store on St. George St. in Mitchell will be the site for the kick-off of "Operation Heat" on Thursday.

Throughout the winter, OPP officers will be handing out tickets to youngsters who are doing good deeds in their communities. These tickets are actually Mac’s store coupons that can be redeemed for a free regular hot chocolate.

Representatives from Mac’s convenience stores and the OPP will be joined by local dignitaries and students from Upper Thames Elementary School for the noon hour event Thursday.

"I am very excited that the Mac’s store in Mitchell was chosen as the kick-off location and look forward to this event," says Inspector Steve Porter, Perth County OPP Detachment Commander, in a media release. "The opportunity for OPP officers to interact with young people in such a positive way is a great thing, and I can see the relationship between youth and the police being strengthened by this program."
