Rooftop Solar Projects Proposed For Meaford Buildings

Meaford has decided to explore the possibility of installing rooftop solar panels on ten municipal buildings.

Some of the buildings considered for the solar panels are Meaford Fire Hall, the Compost Transfer Station, the three community centres in the municipality, and the Harbour Pavilion.

Treasurer Darcy Chapman says each of the projects awarded a contract through the MicroFIT program would cost about $32,500, for a total of $325,000.

If all ten projects are approved, Meaford would have to raise the money debt financing.

But Chapman points out that Meaford would receive ample revenue by selling electricity generated by the solar panels to the province-wide power grid.
