Grey County OPP were called to the Bayfield and Nelson St. area about 3:50pm Monday.
After three witnesses intervened, the man ended the attempted assault and the 44-year-old Meaford victim walked away.
Police later arrested 40-year-old Brent Lawrence of Meaford and charged him with assault with a weapon
He appears in court January 7, 2016.
No one was hurt.
