Canada's Refugee Plan Worries Bruce Grey MP

The Conservative MP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound is concerned about the government's plan to take in 25,000 Syrian refugees

Larry Miller says the long term solution for the refugees has not been clarified.

He adds housing refugees at military bases is an interim solution, but not a long term sustainable plan.

Miller adds the government has now suggested they will accept 50,000 refugees by the end of 2016.

He says the US with a population of roughly 318-million is only taking in 10,000 refugees. He adds Canada's population is about 35-million people.

He says the plan will cost about $1.2-billion over six years.

He is also disappointed that Canada is sticking with a plane to pull the CF-18 fighter jets out of the coalition fighting ISIS, in light of the Paris attacks.

Many communities in midwestern Ontario do not share Miller's view. Groups in Owen Sound, Saugeen Shores, Hanover, Stratford, Kincardine, Goderich, Bluewater and Meaford are raising money to welcome refugees to the area and help them get started in their new home.
