Canada Revenue Scam Targets Perth County Residents

Police  say a scammer claiming to represent Canada Revenue Agency has contacted numerous Perth County residents this week.

Perth County OPP says a Mitchell resident received two calls from an unknown man referring to her income tax account, but the resident hung up and called police.

An elderly Listowel resident received a call from a man claiming to be a CRA inspector, and the resident gave him her Social Insurance Number, which is a vital piece needed in identity theft.

And a Perth East woman also received a similar call, demanding $1,800 she was told she owed CRA, but she realized it was a scam.

Residents are urged to protect their personal information and never give it out over the phone or email to an unknown caller.
