Brockton Council Frustrated With Saugeen Conservation

The Municipality of Brockton's Deputy Mayor says the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority has known for some time that other member municipalities are not happy.

Dan Gieruszak sits on the SVCA Board and says board members are aware of the ongoing problems and are expressing a great deal of concern that supports some of the issues that the agriculture society is bringing forward.

In order to shorten the cycle of delays, Gieruszak says the SCVA needs to hire people and train them; adding this takes time and money.

"So there are some real costs associated with addressing these situations and we're looking for the conservation authority to address these things and to alleviate these issues," says Gieruszak.

Brockton councillor Chris Peabody says he plans to bring a motion forward for debate at the January 11th, 2016 council meeting to withhold $500,000 of the planning portion of the SVCA budget.

"I'll bring the motion forward to that effect, to send a message to the planning staff at Saugeen Valley that the farmers are fed up with the permitting process as well as other land owners, businesses," says Peabody.
