Deadly Heroin Circulating in Grey Bruce

The Grey Bruce Health Unit says a potentially lethal mix of heroin is on the streets of Grey and Bruce Counties.

The warning comes after the death of a man in Owen Sound and two additional overdoses in a 12-hour period on Monday.

Bruce Grey Acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Christine Kennedy, says they want friends and family to reach out to individuals who may use drugs.

“We’re asking family and friends who know individuals who use drugs to be proactive and reach out to these people to make them aware of the danger of this particular heroin. We’re very concerned. We don’t want to see anyone else harmed,” says Dr. Kennedy. “Additional strategies to reduce risk include taking smaller doses and not being alone when taking drugs.”

Kennedy says users could also take smaller doses, and ensure they are not alone when taking drugs.

Public Health also offers Take Away Noloxone kits which can reverse an opiate overdose.

Owen Sound Police are also warning about possibly lethal heroin, but have expanded the warning to include cocaine.

“While both drugs [heroin and cocaine] are already illegal to possess and dangerous to ingest, we are urging anyone who may be users of these types of drugs or come into possession of them, for your own safety please do not use them,” said Detective Sergeant Jeff Fluney.
