Perth County OPP R.I.D.E Results Sobering

Perth County OPP's Festive R.I.D.E. campaign saw nearly nine thousand drivers go through 158 roadside spot checks throughout the county. OPP say nine impaired driving charges were laid, while five motorists were issued with Warn Range Administrative Driver's License Suspensions. The campaign was launched November 23rd, and wrapped up January 2nd. During last year's R.I.D.E. program, 5 drivers were charged for impaired and two were in the warning range. Perth County OPP say they will continue regular R.I.D.E. programs throughout the year to increase awareness of drinking and driving dangers.

“The result of the 2015 -2016 Perth County OPP Festive R.I.D.E. program is somewhat sobering. Compared to last year’s Festive R.I.D.E. program we more than doubled the drivers who registered a “warn” on a roadside screening device this year, while we nearly doubled the number of drivers arrested for impaired driving. Although I am pleased that our officers removed these 14 drivers from our local roads, I am disappointed that these drivers chose to make such poor decisions and jeopardise the safety of all road users.” Perth County OPP Staff Sergeant Joel Skelding
