Formosa School Late Day Lockdown

A Formosa school went into lockdown today.

It happened at Immaculate Conception School this afternoon around 3:20pm. Officials say it didn't last long and was changed to a hold and secure situation but it did delay buses by about 20 to 30 minutes.

Superintendent of Education of the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board Michael Bethune says they take their students safety very seriously.

"But there was a perceived threat, an external threat. It didn't materialize," says Bethune. "At no point in time were there any students that were ever at any risk or staff for that matter."

School boards have strict operating procedures that have to be followed in case of emergencies or threats. Any number of issues can trigger a lockdown ordered by school board officials or police including a suspicious person near the grounds or a threatening email or phone call.

In this case, specific details of what the perceived threat was have not been released.
