Hanover Raceway Officials In Shock Of Loss

People associated with the Hanover Raceway are shattered at the loss of 43 racehorses in a barn fire near Guelph earlier this week.

Hanover Raceway Manager Gord Dougan says it's likely many of the standard bred horses raced in Hanover. Dougan says he can only imagine what the people who care for the horses are going through. He says the horses become like members of the family.

"Painful for the industry, I feel for the people that work with those horses because they're very close to them and spend a lot of time with them and washing them and feeding them and training them and it's going to be a huge impact to those people that are affected," says Dougan.

The cause of the fire that killed the horses has yet to be determined.
