Wellington North Approves Loan To Refugee Sponsorship Group

A second refugee family may soon be arriving in Mount Forest.

Local resident Tom Sullivan told Wellington North council that his group of churches, service clubs, and local residents is sponsoring a refugee family through the Mennonite Central Committee.

Wellington North council agreed to loan the Mount Forest group $5,000 to help bring in a family through the Mennonite Central Committee.   That loan would give them about 75 percent of the $28,000 needed to sponsor the family.

Sullivan says his group could have a refugee family, not necessarily Syrian, in Mount Forest in one to four months.

The Mount Forest United Church is also sponsoring one refugee family.
