Grey Bruce Major Curling Playoff Upset

Defending champion Don Bartley was eliminated in the opening round of the Brokerlink Insurance Grey Bruce Major Curling League playoffs.

Bartley fell 7-5 in an extra end to 6th seed Scott Ballantyne.

Number one seed Al Hutchinson defeated Steve Gregg 9-4 to advance. Second seed Jeff Thomson beat Tom Slumskie 7-4 and fourth seed AJ Shumaker defeated Les Shane 7-3.

The semi-finals and final will be played next Wednesday at the Port Elgin Curling Club. The semis start at 6:30 p.m. with the final scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

Spectators are welcome free of charge.

The match-ups are: Semi-Finals Hutchinson (1) vs Shumaker (4) Ballantyne (6) vs Thomson (2) B Side Shane vs Gregg Slumskie vs Bartley

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
