Milverton Natural Gas Plan On Hold

The Ontario Energy Board has put a proposed Union Gas expansion to Milverton on hold.

Perth East has been notified that the current regulatory framework means the cost to expand to underserviced communities is not workable.

Union Gas filed an application in July of last year seeking regulatory flexibility to extend services under a framework to allow expansion to deliver affordable energy to business and residents.

Union Gas wanted to move forward with expansion in five communities this year including Milverton.

The hold will delay the project for at least a year, and residents and businesses will lose $1.3-million per year in energy saving.

The township says it will also slow growth and development.

Perth East is in the process of preparing detailed submissions to government officials outline the negative impacts of not proceeding.

Residents are being asked to also contact the Energy board to outline personal implications of the decisions.
