OPP Report Spike In Youth Crime In Meaford

The Grey County OPP detachment is taking steps to deal with the increase in the number of crimes involving young people in Meaford.

Inspector Michael Guilfoyle told Meaford council that the number of criminal cases involving youth in Meaford has gone from 25 incidents in 2014 to 45 in 2015.

Guilfoyle adds Grey County OPP has placed youth-related initiatives at the top of its priority list for its school liaison officer in the coming months.

Constable Melissa Barfoot, the school liaison officer, has started holding meetings with various groups and schools in the community to identify certain needs.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
