Weekend Fire Destroys Dungannon Home

A home in Dungannon was completely destroyed by fire over the weekend.

Members of the Lucknow Fire Department along with members from the Goderich Fire Department responded to the blaze at around 6pm on Saturday.

Lucknow Deputy Fire Chief, Clint Hamilton, tells CKNX News that half the home was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival at the scene.

"It was a defensive attack, the house was a total loss in the end," says Hamilton, adding, "about ten of our guys responded along with personnel from Goderich and a water tanker."

Hamilton says it took hours for firefighters to extinguish the blaze; he says they worked at it until almost 3am Sunday morning.

The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire however two cats did perish in the blaze .

There is no word at this time as to a possible cause, and damage estimates are expected to be in the $150,000 range or more.
