Goderich Layoffs Part Of Past Announcement

A spokesperson from Compass Minerals says layoffs that were announced at the Sifto Salt mine in Goderich in December are part of a broader announcement.

There were 90 layoffs announced in mid-December affecting the Goderich operation specifically.

Those are part of the 150 will happen across the company. Compass has locations across Canada, the US and the UK.

In it's year end report, Compass Minerals reported 2015 net income was $159.2-million. That was slightly below 2014 numbers.

Mild weather has played a role in the layoffs and so has new technology.

A two-year restructuring plan was in place and that has been accelerated due in part to the milder weather.
