Stolen Gun And Meth Seized In Owen Sound

Police have recovered a stolen handgun and seized a quantity of methamphetamine after executing a search warrant in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service says on Thursday, officers conducted the search warrant at a residence 7th Ave. E near 20th St. E.

During the search, police recovered the 9mm handgun and ammunition, which had been stolen during break and enter at a residence near Wiarton on February 18.  Over 10 g of methamphetamine, methamphetamine tablets and scales were also seized. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be around $1,200.

As a result, 24-year-old Dane Smith has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Possession of a firearm without being the holder of a licence
  • Possession of a restricted firearm and readily available ammunition
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
Smith will appear in bail court on Friday.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
