Water And Sewer Rates Rising In Minto

The success of water meters in Minto is going to be costly.

Minto residents using municipal water were put on water meters in 2015.  One of the goals was to encourage people to cut down on water usage.

It worked so well that there was about a 35% drop in water usage.

The problem is, the lower usage resulted in the average pre-meter flat rate of $212 for two months water and sewer, dropping to $165 in 2015.

The water and sewer department, which must pay for itself, ended up losing $40,000 per month.

Minto council has approved a new rate structure that will bring the average home up to $200 for two months.
