Current Ward System Could Change In Future Election

The reeve of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh says the next election in his municipality could be an election-at-large, rather than the current ward system.

Ben Van Diepenbeek says council is considering all options.

A town hall meeting is planned to give residents a chance to state their preference. That's expected to take place later this year or early next year.

Van Diepenbeek points out Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is one amalgamated municipality, but the ward system still seems to segregate the three former municipalities.

He believes an election-at-large would result in a more unified municipality.

The reeve also says residents from any ward could run in the next election.
