Unique Memorial to Former Wellington North Mayor

High school students in Mount Forest are working on a unique tribute to former Wellington North Mayor Mike Broomhead.   Broomhead died last month at the age of 65.

Wellington Heights Secondary School students are constructing a memorial bench, which will be on display at the International Plowing Match in Minto in September.

Councillor Steve McCabe said there was an opportunity to purchase a bench to recognize someone in the community, and he felt Mike Broomhead was the best one.

After the IPM, the bench will be moved to a permanent location, with the approval of his family.

Broomhead spent 21 years on council, including seven years as mayor of Wellington North.

Current mayor Andy Lennox said the former mayor left a lasting mark on the municipality with projects such as the Sports Complex in Mount Forest.
