Pedestrian Access For Mount Forest Bridge Construction Costly

Wellington North wants to keep the Rick Hopkins bridge at the south end of Mount Forest open to pedestrians during upcoming construction. But council has learned it might be a little pricey.

A report from town engineers says that keeping part of the bridge open to pedestrians could cost between $30,000 and $324,000.

Council earlier heard from a resident who said the three-month bypass during construction would add 2 km to her walk to work and could be dangerous for kids walking to the town swimming pool in the summer.

Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox says he’s open to any alternative solutions for getting walkers around the bridge construction project.
